IT MAY seem an odd way to spend an evening but next week members of the Helston and St Keverne Young Farmers' Club (YFC) will take some time out to ... well, collect and bag dung.

But there is a particularly worthy purpose to the task at Tregoose Farm on The Lizard.

The dung-bagging is a vital part of the preparation for the club's annual dung sale. This year the members of YFC will be selling bags of well-rotted manure for £2 each to raise funds for Ella's Memory, which is a campaign to get the Daisy Suite for bereaved parents of stillborn babies at Royal Cornwall Hospital modernised and redecorated.

Lay-by

Helston-St Keverne YFC members will be selling the dung in the Sithney Common Hill lay-by from about 10am on March 5 and 6. A second spot, at Trevenen, just outside Helston on the Falmouth road, is yet to be confirmed.

Anyone who would like to order bags to be delivered on March 5 or 6 should contact Alan on 07891 456261 or Sarah on 07814 275246.

Meanwhile, members have continued their busy schedule. They met at Ocean Bowl in Falmouth for an evening of bowling, pool and various other games. The following Saturday morning, once again some of the members travelled up to the Merlin Project centre near St Austell to plant the final trees and finish off their support of last year's chosen charity.

Last week the club held a quiz at Helston Rugby Club which was well supported by the members and the rugby club staff. There was also a disco which raised £356 for club funds.
