Early blooms at Heligan
The Lost Gardens of Heligan are wondering what other surprises the season has to offer after the early emergence of its first spring blooms. Cornwall's mild winter, and the warmth of Heligan's sub-tropical Jungle Garden, have encouraged the first rhododendrons to start blooming, about two months early.
"We noticed the first flowers on the rhododendrons when we returned in the New Year. More unusually, beneath this rhododendron lies a hydrangea which is still flowering from last summer," says Heligan's Cindy Maddison.
