Easyjet announce Newquay Airport link-up
BUDGET airline giant Easyjet has announced it will operate from Newquay airport for the first time next year with flights to Liverpool and London Southend.
The company will run six services per week to the two destinations, which bosses expect will attract around 20,000 new passengers.

The news comes around six months after a report suggested passenger numbers at the airport had fallen by 26 per cent the previous year.
Community leaders say the new routes could provide a huge boost to Cornwall's economy.

Al Titterington, managing director of the airport, said destinations to Europe, including the Mediterranean, could also be introduced.
He said: "This is fantastic news for the airport and Cornwall to attract an airline of Easyjet's stature. The North West and London areas are key business and tourism markets and the addition of Liverpool and London Southend will complement our route network.
"We have been in discussions with Easyjet for a number of months and we are looking forward to working with them in developing services to and from Cornwall. Discussions are continuing for new Easyjet destinations to Europe and in particular to the Mediterranean, being introduced in 2014."
Ali Gayward, EasyJet commercial manager, added: "We're thrilled to add Newquay Cornwall airport to our network for the first time and believe it will be a popular choice for business travellers and UK holidaymakers looking for an idyllic 'staycation'."
Tickets are now on sale for the routes. Flights will be available to London Southend on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with the Liverpool service operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
The airport is currently subsidised by taxpayers to the tune of around £3 million a year, through Cornwall Council.
Councillor Stephen Rushworth, portfolio holder for economy and regeneration, said: "Today's announcement is great news for locals, Cornish businesses and holidaymakers. These new routes will make accessibility to and from Cornwall easier than ever.
"This not only gives local businesses the opportunity to attract new visitors but will also help people within the region to visit friends and family more conveniently."

“It would be nice for flights to Edinburgh and Paris and maybe Newcastle. I don't think Newquay would ever be an Easyjet base but potential of flights to current bases. And maybe a Jersey flight?”

“Flights to Liverpool from Newquay...mmm Tourists maybe but who else. Manchester makes more sense for business as would B/ham
As for Southend I hope Easyjet ahve done there homework, who is going to use that flight enough to make it pay.
All that said it is good for the airport which has loads of capacity, there is currently hours when nothing fliese except maybe the flying vans to the Scilly”

“About time there was some competition and at last flights to Liverpool, perhaps this will "encourage" Flybe to reduce their prices. Question is will the airport will be allowed to expand if necessary to cope with an increase in passenger numbers; present facilities are basic to say the least but there is great potential for expansion = jobs”
