THE WORLD Pasty Championships are returning to the Eden Project next March with new entry classes and a grand Oggy Oscars party planned for the evening. The first event of its kind was staged at the Eden Bakery in March this year and hailed as a great success, with more than 100 competitors taking part in a day-long celebration of Cornwall's most famous dish. It had the full backing of the Cornish Pasty Association, the industry body, which represents more than 50 bakers and champions the world-famous savoury. The competition saw amateur and professional bakers compete under their own names by baking traditional Cornish pasties or variations on the classic recipe. While the traditional pasties had to stick to a strict set of guidelines, the open categories received entries such as wild rabbit, peas and lemon zest and smoked fish topped with parsley and saffron. The event will again take place on the Saturday before St Piran's Day, the traditional celebration of the national day of Cornwall.
