Eden's new brew
ALL hail the ale at Eden's first beer festival. Beer, song and sumptuous local food will make up the menu at the first Great Eden Ale Festival on Saturday and Sunday.
As part of Eden's harvest celebrations, the project will showcase some of the best beers and ciders Cornwall has to offer and celebrate the plants that make some of the nation's favourite drinks.

Beth Lewitt raises a glass to the Great Eden Ale Festival under Eden's hop plants.
As well as the finished products, visitors will be able to see hops growing in the shadow of the world's biggest greenhouses and see demonstrations of home-brewing and apple-pressing.
Visitors can also meet specialists on microbreweries, home brewing and find out more about CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale. Cornish Orchards, who make apple juice and cider, will also have a stall.
A menu chosen to complement the drink selection will be on offer for the weekend, including Cornish cider and seafood paella, and steak and Eden Pure Ale pie. These complement the autumn specials available across all of Eden's cafe bars.
Live music will be playing for the whole weekend. Among the bands will be a performance by percussion specialists Big Green Beat on Saturday. Visitors are also encouraged to bring along their own musical instruments for a weekend-long festival jamming session.
Beth Lewitt, Eden's food and beverage project manager, said: "Our harvest celebrations are already well under way and what better way to celebrate than with a bevy of brewed delights and some fine gastronomic treats?
"Whether you're an ale connoisseur, home-brewer or someone who enjoys a good pint and a good time and maybe wants to learn more about where their beer comes from, the Great Eden Ale Festival has something for you!"
Pints will be priced at £2.50, with a sample for 85p. Various beers will also be available to take away.
Visitors who book in advance through Eden's box office on 01726 811972 will be entitled to a free pint.
On the Saturday, Eden will be open until 8pm and on Sunday 6pm. Normal Eden entry prices apply for the whole weekend.

“What a joyless character Sid from Wadebridge sounds like! "As a Cornishman, I have never been to Eden and never will - after all, what's `Cornish' about it anyway?" What's Cornish about it is that it employs hundreds of Cornish people in an area of high unemployment, for a start, and puts money into hundreds of local businesses. What's Cornish about the beer festival is that they are all Cornish breweries! He reckons they might be glad to see him in his local this weekend - are you sure about that, Sid?”

“So, £10 to get into Eden plus £2.50 a pint! Sounds like another Eden rip-off just to keep the tills rolling now the emmetts have all but disappeared! As a Cornishman, I have never been to Eden and never will -after all, what's `Cornish' about it anyway? It just sucks money grants from anywhere it can -keep them tills rolling Tim, just for the elite few and never mind the Cornish! Think I'll stick to my local this weekend -at least entrance is free and they might be glad to see me!”
