Elderly dog-walker found dead in river

The body of a 78-year-old man was found in the River Exe after a major search and rescue effort. The alarm was raised at 8.45pm after a Tiverton man failed to return home from walking his dog. Police requested the assistance of a search and rescue helicopter from RMB Chivenor, in North Devon, while Exmoor's search and rescue team was also called out. The man's body was found in the river at 12.15am yesterday. Devon and Cornwall Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious. The man's dog was found safe and well and returned to the family.
