A watersports instructor has been let off a curfew because his electronic tag would have stuck through his wetsuit.

Outdoor activities teacher Chance Cowie was originally put on a ten-hour overnight curfew after he admitted breaking a barman's nose.

His case was called back to Exeter Crown Court after his barrister revealed that he would lose his job if he had to wear a tag because he works in either shorts or a wetsuit.

Cowie, 22, of Montpelier Terrace, Ilfracombe, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and was jailed for eight months, suspended for two years. Judge Francis Gilbert QC replaced the four-month curfew with an extra 50 hours unpaid community work.
