RESIDENTS in a St Austell street have been evacuated from their homes as fire fighters tackle a major property fire.
They were called to Victoria Road at around 9pm following reports of a blaze in a terraced home.
However, the raging inferno spread to a neighbouring property.
Fire crews from St Austell, Mevagissey, Fowey and St Dennis are at the scene along with ambulance and police officers.
Residents living nearby have been advised to stay in their homes and keep windows and doors shut while those living next door have been evacuated, police said.
Fire fighters are using a hydraulic platform to get better access to tackle the blaze.
Sgt Simon Lord, acting police sgt at the scene, said they had vacated nearby houses and firefighters were containing the blaze.
He added: "We do not believe at this moment in time that there is anyone in the properties."
