Employment in the private sector grows
Private firms account for a greater share of employment than at any time since records began nearly 15 years ago, according to an analysis of official statistics. Private sector employment has jumped by 1.3 million to 24.1 million while the number of public sector jobs has fallen by 423,000, said a Government report. Last year alone, the increase in private sector employment was almost five times the fall in public sector work, the study found. Latest seasonally-adjusted figures showed 80.9% of jobs in March 2013 were in the private sector, with the rest in the public sector.
