Energetic ensemble works overtime on entertainment
REVIEW
Princess Theatre, Torquay, until tomorrow
Packing a punch with a message still relevant today, this hugely entertaining musical is bright, happy and played with style.
Dolly Parton sets scene and mood, appearing on film on a giant over-stage clock that ticks away the minutes as another frenetic day at Consolidated Companies begins.

It's 1979. For women at work, promotion is hard-fought and discrimination rife. For four disparate and feisty women, things are about to change.
In her first job Judy (Gemma Maclean) is nervously unprepared for the cut and thrust of competitive office life. Arrogant, sexist and hypocritical, Corporate boss Franklyn J Hart (Mark Moraghan) castigates her ineptitude. Sassy blonde and curvy Doralee (Amy Lennox) knows how to handle the bullying boss, while Consolidated mainstay Violet (Jackie Clune) is marginalised and overlooked for promotion. United in their dislike of their bullying boss the women seek revenge.
Director and choreographer Jeff Calhoun ensures the show never flags as an energetic ensemble gives full value. With music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, every number entertains. There's applause for Bonnie Langford (Roz) as in Heart to Hart she changes from super efficient PA to lusting vamp revealing an unrequited passion for her unlovely boss.
The show goes to Hall for Cornwall, Truro, from March 11-16.
