Bodmin School provided the closest challenge putting a stop to the Camborne Devils team of Olivia Haase (Westerlake Wonder); Nicola Barnes (Star); Sarah Dean (Skinny Latte) and Laura Barnes (Miss Colkin) racking up a one-two for their school.

Olivia gained consolation by headed the novice individual section on Westerlake Wonder ahead of Catherine Sidwell of Richard Lander riding Mr Sparks.

The Mounts Bay team of Shea Cornish (Hazel); Tean Manser (Cornish Spirit) and Poppy Burford (Lulu) made their mark with a victory in the open team section which saw Newquay Tretherras Platinum in second ahead of Cape Cornwall.

Daisy Hay of Newquay Tretherras showed her rivals a clean pair of heels to take the individual title on Charity IV breaking the beam a second ahead of the Mounts Bay duo Shea Cornish (Hazel) and Tean Maser (Cornish Spirit).

Camborne Arrows also came to the fore with a win in the novice tack and turnout section.

With only two tickets up for grabs to the Dengie finals at Warwickshire College in April the qualifier was full of exciting action and Pony Club Area representative Sarita Perkins was delighted to make the official presentations.

Kate Massey made her trip across the border from the South Devon West Pony Club worthwhile by emerging with the top ticket on Henrietta while Phoebe Ham (Lickety Split) of the East Cornwall clinched the remaining ticket.

Jessica Bode (Spot N Dots) produced the strongest challenge for Cornwall with fellow Western Pony Club member Poppy Burford (Two For Joy) also reaching the ribbons while Matthew Vincent headed the tack and turnout.

The next inter-schools competition hosted by the Western Pony Club takes place on May 25 at Tregrtha Downs Equestrian Centre, Marazion.

GWENNAP Riding Club continued its busy calender at the Jubilee Arena, Carharrack with open showjumping competitions.

A POPULAR tack auction being held at Goonhavern village hall has the added attraction of a Decorated Harness on the sales list.

The auction takes place on April 6 with the first lot going under the hammer at 6.30pm, while viewing is open to all from 2pm.

"I've not often seen a decorated harness such as this one come up for auction," said organiser Carole Nicholas of Polgoda Feedstore.

"It's a harness which has not been seen for at least 22 years in the county."

It has a lovely brass 'rolling pin' on top of the saddle and hanging brasses. It's in a lovely condition with the britching decorated with brass hearts and scallop shapes between the two layers of leather.

"In my opinion harness such as this is rare to find. The owners would like the harness to be put to good use once again and have made up their minds to sell it on."

Refreshments are available at the auction. For details contact Carole at Polgoda Feedstores on 01872540434 or 07967 796731.
