Exercise puts fire crews in the heat of the action
Royal Navy and civilian fire crews were put through their paces in an exercise focussed on expecting the unexpected.
The teams at RNAS Culdrose, near Helston, along with Cornwall crews, tackled a simulated helicopter crash in which two people were believed to be trapped in the burning wreckage.
Lieutenant Maxine Burgess, RNAS Culdrose Fire Station Officer, said it had gone well: "These exercises are a really important part of our training, not only in responding to major incidents on the airfield but also in being able to work effectively alongside our colleagues in the local authority fire services to respond to them.
"It's also a great opportunity to do this as a realistic exercise so we can understand more about our ways of working and each other's strengths should this type of incident ever happen for real".
