The Cornishman

CORNWALL Council has turned to Facebook to target young people and warn them of the dangers of alcohol. In a pilot project the council searched for people aged between 13 and 24 on the social networking site living within 80km of Truro who had listed activities such as hangovers, binge drinking, drinking games and happy hour in their biographies. As a result the council was able to post adverts in front of 13,720 youngsters in Cornwall. The advert posed the question, "What will your drink cost?" with a variety of pictures, when the advert was clicked on it took users to the Safer Cornwall website which gives advice on having a safe night out. A total of 642 – 5 per cent – clicked on the ad. Details of the campaign were revealed by Cabinet member Lance Kennedy in his report, due to go before the council next week.
