Falmouth Art Gallery named as one of UK's best family friendly galleries
Falmouth Art Gallery has been named as one of the UK's top "family friendly" galleries by The Telegraph.
To launch its Family Friendly Museum Award, as half term approaches the newspaper has picked out galleries around the country that inspire youngsters to interact with works or art. The Cornish gallery is named alongside Tate Britain in London and the National Museum Cardiff.
Falmouth Art Gallery is praised for its baby painting sessions, which encourages babies to react to its collection through finger painting.
The gallery's automata collection is also a particular attraction for young visitors.
"Our most popular work of art with kids is an automaton called A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing by Keith Newstead. They nearly jump out of their skins when the wolf snaps!" said Louise Connell, the gallery's director.
Children's activities at the gallery over the half term include Pirate Portraits Ahoy Matey! on February 16. Here children can become a pirate for the day and draw a portrait of one of their crew to hang in the Jolly Roger. And on February 19 the gallery is holding its Boat in a Box event, when children can design and cut out their own boat in a cardboard box.
