Falmouth hit four at Liskeard to move off bottom
Falmouth Town hauled themselves off the foot of the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League premier division table with an emphatic 4-1 win against Liskeard at Lux Park.
Going into the game having lost their first six league games of the season, Town fell behind two minutes into the second half when Ryan Lowton touched the ball over the line after goalkeeper Dan Burrows had fumbled a cross under pressure from Lowton.
It was almost 2-0 three minutes later when Tom Hall fired a low shot across goal but this time Burrows stretched to get a hand to the ball and was relieved to see it roll against the line and hit the post before he gathered it.
Almost immediately Falmouth swept to the other end and equalised with Dan Richardson’s pass being swept into the net by Paul Cox via a deflection off Lowton.

Falmouth were now in the ascendancy and took the lead after 58 minutes when a superb cross from wide on the left by Cox saw Ed Timmons arrive in the box to send a thunderbolt header into the net.
Liskeard fought hard in their efforts to find a way back but the crucial goal came in the 74th minute when Steve Retchford finished off from 15 yards after the ball had come loose following a 50-50 challenge between Andy Westgarth and Liskeard keeper Jamie Blatchford.
As Falmouth celebrated, Westgarth was left slumped on the ground but after lengthy treatment he returned to have the final say.
With Liskeard pushing forward in numbers, they were left exposed at the back and in the first minute of time added on Westgarth was left unmarked to complete the scoring.
Falmouth joint manager Gary Pascoe said: “The boys showed fantastic character to come back from 1-0 down to win in such emphatic fashion.
“There was a short spell when Liskeard were on top but once we nicked a goal back we always looked the more likely to go on and win.
“The result takes us off the bottom of the table and hopefully we can start to build on this result and climb the table.”
