AFTER a perfect start to 2010, Falmouth Town could move to within a point of leaders Buckland Athletic this weekend.

Played three, won three, scored seven and conceded none isn't a bad way to start the year.

And in winning seven of their last nine games, Town are now being touted as possible title challengers.

However, much could depend on the outcome of a very difficult looking away game this weekend for Alan Carey's men.

Town, whose match at fourth-placed Tavistock last night was postponed, head to fifth in the table Torpoint Athletic on Saturday.

If Falmouth emerge from that encounter with points then, with 12 of their remaining 17 games coming at home, the title race could have another contender.

Carey has always insisted that a top five finish would be an achievement for Town this season, having guided them clear of relegation trouble last year.

But in this kind of form, few would like to bet against Falmouth surpassing those expectations. Despite the loss of Danny O'Hagan back to former club Bodmin Town last month, Falmouth don't appear to be missing the prolific striker, with seven goals in their last three games.

Matt Drummond scored both of Falmouth's goals in Saturday's 2-0 win at Launceston (report 116).

Drummond returned to the side last weekend to replace the injured Josh Sims.

Unbeaten

And the former Penzance striker will keep his place in the Falmouth line-up for Saturday's game at the Mill.

Torpoint, managed by Stuart Dudley, are currently enjoying their own rich vein of form. They are unbeaten since November, with the stand out result a 2-0 win over title holders Bodmin Town.

With last night's game at Tavistock off, Carey will be hoping to report a clean bill of health as Falmouth face their third consecutive away trip this weekend.
