Family and friends show their support for Kayleigh
THE PARENTS of a girl from Bodmin who has lost all her hair are attempting to raise awareness of the condition which has no known cure.
Kayleigh Wylds has alopecia and has been bald since she was 8.
The ten-year-old now wears a wig, and is generally coping well with her condition, but her parents say more research is needed to develop a cure.
Alopecia is caused by the body's immune system wrongly attacking the growing cells in the body's hair-producing cells where the hair starts to grow. This stops them producing new hair and causes existing hair to fall out.

Figures vary, but it is commonly accepted that something approaching 1.7 per cent of the population will have alopecia to some degree during their lifetime.
To help raise awareness, Kayleigh's parents persuaded friends to lose their own hair and undergo waxing treatment at Purely Pampered in Bodmin, which raised £550 for the Little Princess Trust, which pays for Kayleigh's wigs.
Her mum, Tessa Wylds, has signed up to a government E-petition calling for research funding into a cure. She said: "Kayleigh has good days and bad days, but generally she copes well with her condition.
"She normally refuses to go anywhere without wearing her wig, but she has taken inspiration from Joanna Rowsell, the cyclist who won a gold medal at the London Olympics and who also has alopecia."
