He grew up at Tregerest Farm, Newbridge, and was educated at Newbridge School.
On leaving school at the age of 14 he went to work on the family farm, to which he devoted his working life.
He met and married his only sweetheart, Audrey, in 1952. Len had always said this was the best and most important decision of his life.
After their marriage, Len's parents moved from the farm leaving Len with its day-to-day running.
He continued to work hard and invest in future developments to keep up to date so the next generation could carry on.
The family grew with three sons and one daughter: Christopher, Michael, Carolyn and William.
Len was certainly no lecturer but by watching and listening to him as he went about his work, he certainly was a great teacher.
A lifetime of dedication to the land and stock earned him the respect and admiration of many, especially his three sons, who continue in his footsteps to work hard; and his daughter with her loving, caring ways, making a wonderful nurse.
Leonard was not a boastful man. He was a gentle, gracious man whose warm, sincere smile touched the hearts of many.
Len's faith provided the foundation stone with Audrey on which their lives were built. His Christian values underpinned every aspect of their lives.
He devoted a lifetime to Tregerest Chapel where he was chapel steward and secretary for many years and Audrey was the organist.
When the heart-wrenching decision was made for the chapel to close, he was pleased to attend the afternoon services at Drift Chapel when his health allowed.
Len led a simple life uncomplicated by today's world. His life revolved around his family, his faith and his farm.
He was a happy, contented man who never demanded much from life.
As long as his beloved wife Audrey and family were happy, so was he.
