Family man who liked the simple things in life
THE FUNERAL service has taken place at Treswithian Downs Crematorium, Camborne, for Mr Ivor Garfield Hollow, who has died at Glencoe Nursing Home, Gwithian, at the age of 76. The service was conducted by the Reverend Mark Richards.
Ivor was born in Redruth on January 19, 1935. His childhood was spent in Connor Downs.
He was never able to skip school, as the family home was only four doors away from the school itself.
On leaving school, Ivor took up employment working for local farmers in the Gwithian area, particularly Wyn Hosking, at Pulsack.
Throughout his life he was never afraid of hard work and never out of work for long, right up until his accident in 1986, when he fell from scaffolding. As well as the land and farming, Ivor had a great love of the sea and fishing, and was a member of the Carnhell Green Sea Angling Club.
He liked nothing more than to spend time on the Helford River, digging for bait with his son, David, and then taking the boat to go fishing for bass.
Latterly, he developed a passion for using his metal detector down at the harbour in Hayle, the beach at Gwithian and at St Ives, walking up and down Porthminster Beach in search of buried treasure.
Ivor liked the simple things in life, like a good cup of tea, which he always drank from his own stained cup. Ivor was a great family man, and along with his wife, Rosemary, his family were everything to him. Ivor and Rosemary were married at Penzance Register Office on June 25, 1960; they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 2010.
Together, they had four children: Stephen, Michael, Debbie and David.
Family homes over the years included the cottage at Pulsack, Loggans, the 37 years they spent at Reawla Lane, and the last four years at Queensway, in Hayle.
Ivor was a much-loved dad, papa and paps, to Stephen, Linda, Gary, Paul and Lisa; Michael, Michelle, Matthew, Ben and Aidon, Debbie, John, Jamie and Ashley; David, Claire, Ryan and Kian, along with Leah, Ellie, Laila, Kiera and Ethan.
In October of last year Ivor was diagnosed with cancer and throughout this time was cared for and supported by his family along with West Cornwall Care (Caresta).
Ivor spent the last six weeks of his life at Glencoe Nursing Home.
Donations were for St Julia's Hospice, and total £240.30.
