A farmer was airlifted to hospital after two of his limbs were trapped when the cage of a tractor collapsed.

The farmer, thought to be in his late 60s, had to be cut free after his left leg and right arm were pinned down on farm land at Rose-an-Grouse, between Hayle and Penzance in Cornwall, at about 12.45pm yesterday.

Camborne fire station manager said: "It was an awkward job, because we had to change the shape of the vehicle, but without putting any more pressure on either of the trapped limbs."

The farmer is thought to have escaped serious injury and was being treated in hospital.
