Festivities culminate with River of Lights
THE MAGIC of Christmas will once again sparkle in Penzance this year as the town embraces the festive season with open arms.
The town will be serving up a feast of seasonal treats, events and music to brighten even the darkest of winter nights and there will also be ample opportunity to grab that special gift with the return of the Christmas market.

For the chance to lose yourself in the Dickensian atmosphere of Christmases past, Trereife House will host a Christmas fair next weekend, starting on Friday, November 18. The grand setting lends itself beautifully to the festivities and will witness live seasonal music, a traditional fairground carousel and a magical lantern parade alongside great shopping with local foods and crafts available to fill bellies and stockings alike.
The big switch-on of the Christmas lights takes place on Saturday, November 26 and it's a day packed to the brim with music, entertainment and family fun.

Causewayhead will be closed to traffic from 10am as preparations get under way for the seasonal market which will be selling a variety of Christmas goods throughout the day.
The air around the Humphry Davy statue will be filled with the sounds of the season as a host of musical performances take place, with appearances from Mount's Bay Singers and the Humphry Davy Brass Band. The Causewayhead processions start at 1pm, with displays from Penzamba among others.
Music
Market Jew Street closes to traffic from 4pm as Penzance Mayor Jan Ruhrmund makes the steam-powered car journey from the harbour car park to Causewayhead.
First stop for the mayor will be Wharfside Shopping Centre where she will light the centre's impressive Christmas display, before travelling up Market Jew Street to take in Cornwall Hospice Care's Light Up A Life service at the Sir Humphry Davy statue and, finally, illuminating the town in the glow of Christmas with the switching on of the lights.
Youngsters should also keep an eye out, as news from the North Pole is that Santa and his sleigh will be in town on the day ready to hear the Christmas wishes of Penzance children.
The tradition of the Montol Midwinter Festival begins on December 16, culminating on Wednesday, December 21 with the breathtaking River of Lights procession from St John's Hall to the Lescudjack Hillfort.
All in all Christmas in Penzance looks set to deliver a sackful of festive cheer and seasonal fun for all.
