Final approval for affordable homes at Mevagissey
A controversial housing development in a Cornish fishing village has been backed by the Secretary of State.
Eric Pickles agreed with Cornwall Council chiefs that planning permission should be granted for the 31 properties at Mevagissey on the south Cornwall coast.

Some 21 of the homes will be affordable.
Developer Westcountry Land secured planning permission in November last year, but Mevagissey Parish Council asked Mr Pickles to review the decision.

Protesters were angry the properties would be built in a coastal Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The Minster concluded there were insufficient reasons to call in the application and it should be determined at local level by Cornwall Council.
Westcountry Land director John Schuttkacker said: "Cornwall Council voted emphatically for the scheme in October. This new statement from the Secretary of State means that our application can finally be approved and we can now deliver truly affordable homes to the local families of Mevagissey."

“Yay, build in Mevagissey to make sure that even more rainfall stays on the surface of the ground and adds to the flood risk.
Good work Cornwall Council...nice thinking”
