Final green dramas at windy Perranporth
COMPETITION was fierce in the second round of this year's Perranporth Open Winter Foursomes played in windy but mainly dry conditions on Sunday, with seven of the 16 matches decided on the final green.
One of the more fancied partnerships to suffer defeat at the 18th was Truro's Kim Mundy and Bowood Park's county stalwart Josh Greenaway. They lost by one hole to the Falmouth pairing of Paul Huckle and Micky Doust.
The father and son duo of Alastair and Sam Chivers had a slightly easier passage into the third round on their home course with a 3&2 victory over Gary Marson and Mike Smith in an all-Perranporth match.
The host club's James Davidson, partnered by former county champion Jon Coleman, of West Cornwall, recorded a 6&5 win over father and son pair Andy and Ryan House, of Truro.

Competitors in the annual two-day meeting of the Cornwall County Professional Golfers' Alliance at Saunton last week were faced with gale force winds and torrential rain on the opening day.
Despite the conditions, the West course held up remarkably well – as did those participating – with Graham Hawken (Carlyon Bay) pipping Gary Hooper (St Austell) on countback to take the amateur honours on the first day with 36 points, while Whitsand Bay's Andy Welch was top professional with 33 pts.
In improving but still testing conditions on the East course on the second day, Richard O'Hanlon (The Point at Polzeath) shot the round of the tournament with a brilliant five under par score for 41 points. This won him not only the pro honours on day two, but also the overall pro's prize with 64 points from Carlyon Bay's Paul Turpin on 62.
Second day amateur winner was Max Billingsley (The Point at Polzeath) with 42 points from Steve Jenson (Carlyon Bay) on 39. The best team were Turpin and Hawken with an overall 73 points from Trevose pro Gary Lenaghan and Jenson on 72, with Falmouth amateurs Brian Craig and Keith Popperwell third on 71.
The next Alliance meeting was due to have been played at Bude and North Cornwall on Wednesday this week.
