Police later found a handgun at the scene which has been sent away for forensic analysis. It is not yet known if it is a genuine firearm or an imitation. Officers said the handgun had not been fired and there was no evidence, so far, to suggest there was any attempt to discharge it. No arrests have been made and inquires are ongoing.
Inspector Dave Meredith said: "This was a serious incident involving an assault and the seizure of what is believed to be a firearm. The police take all incidents involving firearms and imitation forearms very seriously."
The case is being investigated by Newquay CID.
