Firefighters respond to blaze at house on Helford River
Dozens of firefighters were called to tackle a blaze at a house on the Helford River, near Falmouth, at the weekend. Crews from as far afield as Wadebridge were sent to the fire in Port Navas when people on a passing boat raised the alarm at about 9.40am on Saturday. Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said the house had shown signs of "back draft and flash over fire potential". Crews cut away parts of the building as the fire spread between the ceiling and roof slates and behind external cladding. More than half of the house was destroyed in the blaze which is thought to have started accidentally.
