Firefighters will travel to Nepal this week to train the country's fire service at the request of the United Nations. The Nepal Fire Service is ill-equipped, with firefighters often turning up at serious incidents without protective clothing or adequate equipment, including breathing apparatus. There are very few fire appliances and access to water through the hydrant system is limited. The UN has a five-year co-operation agreement with the Nepal to help improve disaster management. Firefighters from Devon and Somerset will be there for six weeks.
