Firefighters unwise to eye exotic junkets
SCILLY'S links with such far-flung spots as the Falklands, Australia's King Island, America's James Island and Hornby Island in Canada raised a few councillor eyebrows recently when the local fire brigade's Risk Management Plan was revealed in draft.
"What is the relevance?" asked chairman Fred Ticehurst.
"There may be things we could learn from the Falklands but some of these places seem a little far-fetched," observed Richard McCarthy, making a mental note of island firemen routinely packing their suitcases to head "down under".
Fire Officer Howard Cole said it would "be brought up" in the consultation.
