A RENEWABLE energy company based near Truro has fought off thousands of competitors to get to the final of a national competition.

The Renewable Energy Co-operative (R-Eco) a worker-owned company, is one of three finalists for the title of Co-operative of the Year UK.

Every member of R-Eco has an equal share in the business, which is based at Wellington Mine near Bissoe and has now expanded to Bristol and Oxford.

The company has provided renewable energy services for a range of projects in Cornwall, ranging from bespoke residential systems to large- scale commercial and community-based projects such as Heartlands at Pool.

"As the British economy struggles to regain momentum, co-operatives are seen as an increasingly more sustainable and ethical structure in which to do business."
