A TALENTED graduate has helped an award winning event management company grow its turnover by 300% and double its client portfolio.

Amy Weeks, 24, joined Event Cornwall in February 2009 under the Convergence-funded Unlocking Cornish Potential Scheme, after carrying out various work experience placements with the company.

Since then, the company has experienced significant growth and relocated to new offices in Truro.

Award

Amy was presented with an award as a catalyst for business growth by UCP for her role in expanding the company.

Claire Eason-Bassett, director at Event Cornwall, said: "In all honesty, we could not be what we are without Amy.

"She is fantastic to work with, she absorbs and uses information wisely and makes connections which are always to the benefit of the company.

"Following this year with UCP, she is well-equipped to work professionally in this field, to make exciting events happen and to work collaboratively with a wide range of partners, always keeping the bigger picture in mind."

As part of her placement, Amy completed an Institute of Leadership and Management qualification and practical training courses. She has also taken on marketing for Event Cornwall.

Amy said: "I feel privileged to have found such a great job in a competitive sector and I'm really pleased that my work has had such a positive impact on Event Cornwall.

"It's a fantastic company to work for – I've had the chance to grow while at the same time receiving all the support I need to succeed."

Success

Steve Bough, business development manager at UCP, added: "Amy's placement is a real success story for UCP and demonstrates the impact a talented and committed graduate can have on a company."

UCP has received European Social Fund (ESF) Convergence investment.

A Combined Universities in Cornwall scheme, it places graduates with businesses in Cornwall for up to one year and offers support including mentoring from experts in their fields.
