A fisherman was rescued by surfers today after he fell from his boat close to the coast at Bude.

Falmouth Coastguard was alerted to the incident and the Bude RNLI lifeboat was called out. However, the man had already been rescued by the time they reached the vessel. The lifeboat crew then had to tackle the outboard motor, which was still running and sending the boat around in circles.

Coastguard spokesman Martin Bidmead said that the boat "...was going round in circles at full speed, which was extremely dangerous to approach for the inshore lifeboat. They managed to stop it by putting ropes into the propeller of the engine."
