Fishermen cause cup upset
Porthleven 2, Camelford 1
PORTHLEVEN will meet Truro City in the quarter-finals of the Cornwall Senior Cup on February 18 after dumping premier division Camelford out of the competition at a rain-sodden Gala Parc on Saturday.
Chris Lawrence grabbed the winner for John Dent's men in the 58th minute to produce one of the shock results of the round, after Ryan Pooley (26) had cancelled out Matt Fox's second minute strike for the hosts.
The tie finally took place at the third attempt after the previous two encounters at Trefrew Park were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
And despite heavy rain before and during Saturday's encounter, it was the hosts who dealt better with the conditions in a full blooded third round tie.
Fox gave Porthleven the perfect start when he volleyed in Lawrence's deflected cross.
But after a good spell of pressure from the visitors, Camelford drew level when Pooley directed his header into the far corner from Liam Dingle's cross.
There were chances at both ends, with Mark Gusterson squandering a host of chances.
And the Camels were made to pay when Lawrence slid in at the back post to volley past goalkeeper Colwill.
Porthleven now face a trip to Truro City in the quater-finals in an all division one west encounter.
