Fishing boat towed home to Newlyn by lifeboats
LIFEBOATS from St Mary’s and Penlee combined to bring a Newlyn fishing vessel safely back to her home port in the early hours of this morning.
The 50ft vessel with six crew on board reported mechanical difficulties, believed to involve the propeller, when lying about six miles east of the Isles of Scilly at around 10pm on Tuesday.
The St Mary’s lifeboat was launched and took up the tow, rendezvousing with the Penlee lifeboat two miles south of Wolf Rock at around 12.30am.
The Penlee lifeboat took up the tow and the two vessels returned to Newlyn at 4am.
The Penlee lifeboat had earlier been alerted to an incident at Praa Sands.
At 6.30pm yesterday, there were reports that a person, believed to be a surfer, was missing in the sea.
However, before the lifeboat was launched, the person was reported safe on the beach.
