Flood rescue firm sends drying kit to Germany
A Westcountry firm is lending its support to a clear-up campaign in parts of Germany hit by severe flooding.
Richfords Fire & Flood, which has bases in Pool and Cullompton, has dispatched two lorries containing 300 piece of commercial drying equipment to Meerbusch near Dusseldorf in North West Germany, in a commercial arrangement with an industry peer based there.
It responded to calls from a business contact there, following downpours across Germany and in Austria and Russia which left communities devastated when the rivers Elbe and Danube burst their banks.
Insurers estimating that the clear-up process will cost £2.5 billion in Germany alone.

Richfords business development director Michael Cooper said: "As an industry, we are quite tight knit and its good to know that we could rely on them in similar circumstances.
"We're an industry of peaks and troughs, although in recent months, the Westcountry has had more than its fair share of rain."
Richfords, which also has flood recovery teams on standby to head out to Germany if further manpower is needed, is currently awaiting the outcome of the Government's Statement of Principles over flood protection.
This will lay out the Government's ongoing commitment to the provision of flood defences across the UK, upon which the insurance industry takes it lead for providing flood cover.
