A FRESH flood alert has been issued for several areas in Mid-Cornwall.

The Environment Agency (EA) said up to 30mm of rain could fall should be expected.

The EA said rainfall could be even higher in specific areas and said flooding was "likely".

The flood alert was issued shortly before 5.30pm for the Lizard, Penryn, Falmouth, Truro, Ladock, Tresillian and Grampound.

A spokesman for the EA said: "A band of heavy rain is expected later this evening and into Thursday morning.

"Widespread totals of 20 to 30 mm can be expected, with localised higher totals possible. As rivers are already high and the ground is very saturated, flooding is likely.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as required."

The EA said people concerned about flooding should call Floodline on 0845 988 1188, select option 1 and enter Quickdial number 0413 for more information.

“Can Anyone at the EA or CC Planning tell us where the rain water coming off all these new developments goes when the swales, soakaways, holding tanks are full? Let me guess, it becomes run off and floods the poor ******s lower down in the Catchment (eg Newlyn Coombe, Gilberts Coombe etc (add various Coombes, villages, yawn)”
