Floral show beats frost to usher in spring round
Exhibitors battled against the odds to make the first spring show of the year a success.
The mild Cornish climate allows the West Cornwall Horticultural Society the honour of launching the annual calendar of floral events.
This year the hardest frost of the winter struck just days ahead of show-time, then heavy rain threatened to deter visitors before bright Penzance sunshine burst through and saved the day. Show secretary Christine Ede said the 89th event had been "against the odds".
"We were down on camelias but expected that due to the weather," she added.
