Focus on Ford at Gallery 49
THE latest exhibition at Gallery 49 on Falmouth's old High Street features the work of Mary Ford.
Mary is a Falmouth resident and was brought up aboard a ketch moored at St Mawes. Her latest show features a selection of paintings and collages, mostly depicting still-life subjects.
She said: "Often the most ordinary things interest me through their particular relationships.
"My work evolves both from things seen and from memories. Then through painting or collage I try to resolve these relationships."
Viewers with experience of modernist paintings, both from St Ives and farther afield, might spot the influence of Mary's tutor at the RA Schools – William Scott. There are also hints of Georgio Morandi in the meditative qualities of the precise arrangements of colours and shapes.
Mary Ford's silkscreen prints have been commissioned and published by Christie's Contemporary Art (now CCA Galleries), and printed by Advanced Graphics in London – who also produce works by Patrick Caulfield and Julian Opie among others.
Mary's print Boats, Antibes was selected from the Tate collection to decorate their stationery gifts.
Mary Ford is at Gallery 49 until September 13.
The gallery is open on Monday and Tuesday afternoons, and then Thursday to Saturday; Closed on Wednesdays. For further information please ring 07729 394759.
