Food co-op looks for a co-ordinator
CORNWALL'S first community-supported agriculture scheme, at St Kew Highway near Wadebridge, is looking for a partnership development co-ordinator.
Camel Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), created at the end of 2008 is a co-operative aiming to promote local food, reduce food miles and connect people with the land where their food is grown.
The non-profit-making community project was set up with advice from the Soil Association and its members, some 50 local families, are entitled to a weekly share of the harvest with vegetable boxes of seasonal produce.
Secretary Mike Sadler said: "We are now seeking to employ a committed and enthusiastic person who can help us build strong links within our local community in North Cornwall."
The successful candidate will initiate and develop partnership agreements with schools, charities and special interest groups to increase practical awareness of the main aims of the community vegetable-growing project.
The position is initially offered for a fixed term of six months, 12 hours a week, and has been partly funded by the Big Lottery Fund's Local Food Programme.
Mr Sadler added: "This post will suit someone who's an excellent communicator and committed to the objectives of the Making Local Food Work programme.
"He or she will need to have an understanding of basic horticultural principles as well as environmental and sustainability issues.
"In addition, they must have a flexible approach to working, be able to operate on their own initiative and to deal with people of all ages and backgrounds."
