Fowey RNLI to benefit after local team wins South West 3 Peaks race
THE first South West 3 Peaks Yacht Race, which consists of a gruelling 115 miles of sailing, 135 miles of cycling and a further lung-busting 29 miles' running, has been won by a team from Fowey, St Blazey and Bodmin.
Team Hobbit was one of seven attempting to take the crown at the event, but it took until the final stretch of cycling for the team to seize the lead and ride into Plymouth to the welcome sound of victorious cheers.
Team Hobbit took on the challenge of the 3 Peaks to raise money for the Fowey RNLI and boasted three current lifeboat crew members among their ranks in Jimmy Hoddinott and Alex Riddell with Christian Philp in the support team.
Alongside the trio were Amy Jones, Kerry Paul, Denzil Williams and Chris Ogg. Callum Pritchard completed the team as the second support team member.

The three peaks in question that team members had to reach during the race's different sections were Land's End, Brown Willy and Higher Willhays.
The race got under way on Friday, June 21 with a 5-mile run from St Mawes to St Just and, for Team Hobbit, finished 30.5 hours of torturous road and sea later with triumph in Plymouth.
RNLI crew member Mr Hoddinott said afterwards: "It was a massive personal achievement for the team, but we would like to say a massive thank-you to Christian and Callum for being such an amazing support team, and also to Sally and Steve Wilkinson for being there.
"We really couldn't have done it without you all."
The team members had trained hard for five months to achieve the goal of raising vital funds for Fowey RNLI.
"It really showed in the testing wind and sea conditions," added Jimmy.
The team has raised £3,000 so far. If you would like to make a donation please visit – http://uk.virginmoneygiving. com/teamhobbit
