Freddy dares to dream as he leaves fantasy world
REVIEW
Exeter Bike Shed, until tomorrow, and March1, 2 and 7
There is mystery from the start as beautifully-edited film grabs the attention. A car travels down a remote woodland road. Emerging, the driver walks towards the doors of an old shed; simultaneously Freddy Dare enters the stage.
Presented by Cube Theatre as part of Exeter's extreme imagination festival, this fascinating story is played out by two actors. Ingenious use of film interwoven throughout adds characters and locations.

Freddy (Benjamin Symes) is 11 years and 59 days old. Short for his age, he suffers from asthma and is verbally bullied at school. Freddy immerses himself in a fantasy world created around his electronic game.
Fellow pupil Ginny Roberts (Nix Wood) has her own problems. A high-achiever she fails parental expectations and seeks attention through rebellious behaviour. Her barbed remarks hit Freddy hard. Yet in a twist, the Ginger Robber recounts a melodramatic tale with a dark Gothic edge, foretelling a full-moon, spooky black crows and a tattered dance frock, insisting that together with Freddy they must dance or die.
