Free parking still requires a ticket
MOTORISTS using the free car park in Camborne are reminded to display a ticket.
The call comes after a resident was issued with an £80 penalty notice on Friday for not displaying a ticket at Trevithick Road Car Park.
The two-hour free car parking trial was launched earlier this month by Camborne Business Improvement District (BID) to encourage visitors to the town.
Camborne BID manager Mel Martin said for the first 18 days the machines were not working so everyone was using the car park for free.

When the machines were brought back into use on September 18, all visitors have been required to display a valid ticket.
Tickets are free for up to two hours, £1.20 for two to four hours and £2 for all day.
She said: "It became apparent that not all customers had read the 'You still need to display a ticket' sign put up by Armtrac and so some were being issued with penalty notices.
"Therefore in the afternoon, additional signs were added to the machines to make it clear that all car park customers must display a ticket."
Mrs Martin said those customers who made a genuine mistake on Friday and did not display a ticket, should follow the appeals process on the rear of the penalty notice and that BID will work with the car park operator to consider each appeal on an individual basis.

“PLEASE ! lets get some basic facts correct.
The driver did not get a fine or a penalty!
Private firms CAN NOT fine anyone, only councils/police and courts can.
All the driver has is an invoice, there is no legal obligation to pay this irrespective of the changes that occured on Oct 1st. All these firms can do is send you scary looking letters with red ink, in reality they are toothless.
Amrtrac took 2 cases to court and lost badly each time.
Since October 1st, clamping and towing are illegal so armtracs threats of this are worthless, armctrac also trade as MBC parking solutions - search this site for dubious previous history of MBC!
The freedoms act also states that only actual looses may be claimed by the parking company, so the £80 is clearly a penalty. the loss suffered in a free car park is .....?
A recent trubunal ruling VCS vs HMRC ruled that unless the company has an interest in the land they can not persue any claims for payment, this renders all claims by armtrac invalid.
1.8 million private parking invoices were issued last year 660,000 were not paid, 49 resulted in court action and over half of those were lost by the parking companies.

Forget the CAB, as one of the board own a major private parking company and advises the CAB on this subject !”
