French bosses take Westcountry bike ride
French tourism business owners jumped into the saddle to see for themselves the delights of cycling routes in Devon and Cornwall.
The trip was organised as part of the European Cycle West project involving 17 partners from South West England, Brittany and Normandy. It's all being done to boost tourism by promoting cross-channel regions as key cycling destinations. One group of overseas visitors hit the Camel Trail, north Cornwall. There they met with business owners in Padstow and Wadebridge to find out what impact the popular trail has had on local trade.

Councillor Philip Parsons, Cornwall Council local member for Altarnun, said: "Cycling is a valuable and sustainable way to boost visitors to Cornwall. This visit provided a great opportunity for us to showcase Cornwall and market its attractions for touring cyclists to our French partners."
Groups were also out and about on Devon's cycle routes. Devon County Council is working on a cross-channel cycle route stretching from Ilfracombe to Plymouth and on to Redon in France.
