Fresh blood for council as 18-year-old is co-opted
A PROBUS farmer's daughter is the latest teenager to join the ranks of the parish council to become the youngest member in Cornwall. Mary Eyles, who turned 18 just three weeks ago, follows in the footsteps of St Agnes parish councillor Joe Vinson, 19, who took up his seat last December. Miss Eyles, whose parents run Treworgans Farm, will be around 60 years younger than many of her fellow members who are in their eighties. Speaking before she was co-opted onto Probus Parish Council at its meeting on Monday night, she said: "Not a lot of young people know that they can have a say in the way their village is run. "A lot of ideas can be outdated. I want to bring fresh ideas representing my generation."

“This can only be fantastic news. Democracy and decisions should represent everyone and this is one way to make sure it does.”
