Fresh fears have surfaced over the future of Truro's HMV store following the announcement of more closures.

The administrators running the troubled entertainment retailer said today another 37 stores across the UK would close with the loss of more than 400 jobs.

Today's announcement follows the news last month of 66 store closures.

Joint administrator Nick Edwards said: "As part of our ongoing review of HMV's financial position, we have undertaken a further review of the store portfolio and have identified an additional 37 stores for closure.

"This step has been taken in order to enhance the prospects of the restructured business continuing as a going concern.

"Together with the previously identified 66 closures, this restructuring will result in a residual portfolio of some 116 stores."

The location of the 37 affected stores has not yet been revealed.

“Glad you have opened the thread out eu_blues i couldnt couldnt agree more.

The unbridled greed of central banks and venture capitalists have lit a slow burning fuse. Greed fueled rent increases on retail floorspace in town centres, lack of transparency and level playing field with regard to wholesale buying power have combined to let loose a perfect storm of adversity which mitigates against retail diversity on the highstreet while fuelling the supermarket onslaught which is greatly assisted by free parking and cheap fuel all in one place.

The curent horsemeat scandal is damning evidence of supermarkets driving down the margins of suppliers to the point where it is impossible to produce an ethical product, something has to give so criminals get involved, the upside is that local butchers and farm shops have suddenlty had a huge unexpected but very welcome boost.

Lets hope that supermarkets encounter further train wrecks along the way which will cut them down to size giving other better retailers a chance to progress.

The City of London in its greed has pl;ayed a large part in altering British life almost beyond recognition with much assistance from Brusssels bureaucrats and a succession of increasingly inept British Governments, perhaps UKIP will provide the electoral shock needed to initiate the root and branch shake up so badly needed.”

“"in the dog eat dog world of retail only the meanest fittest survive" Poldice

It's only a dog eat dog world because the Bank of England and the City of London say so.

I use to support local business's in Truro as much as I could. When Solo Music finally closed because of not being able to compete against the mega-corporate retailer like HMV, I was pretty devistated. Small retailers aren't given the breaks needed to allow them a level playing field. It's all about the BIG BOYS on the high street. It's very clear that the supermarkets will be the only places left where consumers will be able to purchase goods. This gradual destruction of the high streets has been taking place over almost three decades. It's another clear indication to me that this is by design. Everytime a small business opens up with good intentions they often cannot compete, so gradually go out of business altogether. Rent is another factor. Every obsticle has been placed in the path of setting up independent retailers in towns and cities. The path of economic destruction goes all the way back to those who control the economic structure of the UK economy, namely, the central bank and the City of London. The governments are responsible for delivering the economic policies of the central bank on the state of the UK economy.”

“The trouble being that the vast majority of Plebs have no loyalty to anything not even a decent independent music retailer which is a very sad reflection on the unpleasnt times we live in.”

“The sooner HMV go out of business, the sooner Truro gets a decent independent music retailer I reckon...”

“in the dog eat dog world of retail only the meanest fittest survive, if this store becomes a casualty it will be a foretaste of further town centre closures in Truro as the ultra greedy supermarkets suck the life out of the City Centre, it has been regularly predicted and it is bound to happen.”
