TWO food pubs in West Cornwall have been named among the UK's top food establishments.

The Gurnard's Head, near Zennor, run by Charles Inkin, Edmund Inkin and Andrew Wood, has been acclaimed for the quality of its food, as has The Victoria Inn, Perranuthnoe, which is run by Stewart and Anna Eddy.

They are both featured in the Budweiser Budvar Top 50 Gastropub 2012 awards.

The awards, organised by leading pub industry magazine, The Publican's Morning Advertiser, recognise the best gastropubs across the UK. Industry experts, including food writers, celebrity and executive chefs, pub company chiefs, pub guide editors and gastropub operators (who can't vote for their own pub), voted both hostelries as one of their leading 50 gastropubs.

Among the dishes on the menu at the Gurnard's Head are plaice, Vermouth, Muscat grapes, tarragon, new potatoes; pheasant, truffade potatoes, braised cabbage, pumpkin puree; and fish stew, saffron potatoes, spinach, tarragon. Dishes at the Victoria Inn include locally-reared Primrose herd pork served with black pudding, champ potato and apple sauce; and Cornish duck with potato cake, roasted parsnip and apple.
