Godolphin Atlantic crowned Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Division One West champions
IT was party time in Newquay on Saturday night after Godolphin Atlantic were crowned Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Division One West champions.
Derek Martin's side only required a draw in their game away to title rivals Helston Athletic, but the G went one better to win the league in style with a thrilling 3-2 win at Kellaway Parc (match report page 100). Godolphin will now hope to join their local rivals Newquay, who won the Division One West title last year, in next season's top flight.
The club have applied for promotion and all now depends on their Godolphin Way home being given the green light to host Premier Division football next season.

A ground grading inspection has taken place at Godolphin, as it has at the three other clubs to apply for promotion from Division One West, Helston, Callington and Wadebridge.
No decision will be made until the final positions in the Premier Division, Division One West and Division One East are decided.
But Cornish Guardian Sport understands that league officials are expected to grant Godolphin their place in the Peninsula League top flight next season for the first time in the club's 33-year history.
Martin said: "I cannot give the lads enough credit. They have been fantastic.
"We are looking forward to next season, the challenge and seeing if we can do it against higher level opposition."
It has been a remarkable rise to prominence for the G-Men, who were formed in 1980, and only became a senior side eight years ago when they were promoted to the East Cornwall Premier League following promotion from the Duchy League.
Martin added: "We've gone through the East Cornwall League and we've been in this division five years now. We've made tremendous progress."
Godolphin will be presented with the Division One West trophy in their next league game, away to Truro City next Wednesday.
