Godolphin Atlantic 5, Wadebridge Town 3

Godolphin Atlantic fought back from 3-1 down with 25 minutes to go to main their unbeaten record and beat promotion rivals Wadebridge in a thriller at Godolphin Way on Boxing Day afternoon.

And the G Men, who have 14 wins and a draw to their name, are now seven points clear of Helston at the top of the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League division one west, and ten clear of third-placed Wadebridge, who have two games in hand.

But Derek Martin's side, who had won their previous seven home league games this season, had to show all of their spirit to overturn a two-goal deficit.

Shane Looker gave Wadebridge a 28th minute lead with a shot from 15 yards and although Phil Lowry equalised soon after, the Bridgers restored their lead in the 35th minutes with a disputed penalty scored by Dan Jennings.

Things got worse for the leaders ten minutes into the second half when the prolific Jennings got ahead of his marker from a corner to head Wadebridge into a 3-1 lead.

Substitute Aaron Dilley gave Godolphin a spark of hope in the 65th minute with a superb right foot finish after cutting in from the left, and suddenly the G Men looked a different side.

And it was 3-3 in the 70th minute when a Richard Griffin pass sent Lowry racing clear from the halfway line and he drew the keeper before firing low int the net for his second and Godolphin's third goal.

Godolphin went ahead for the first time in the match in the 75th minute with a penalty from Dilley after he had been brought down by the keeper.

The G Men thought they should have had another spot kick in the 80th minute when Griffin was pulled down by the keeper but the referee played the advantage as Griffin got back to his feet, but then hit the post with his shot.

But the home supporters had to wait only three more minutes before Godolphin sealed a spectacular comeback as Griffin sent Jamie Wigg clear along the left and he cut inside before curling a superb shot into the roof of the net.

All other division one west games scheduled for Boxing Day were postponed.
