First Great Western contract extended - no change for Cornwall Rail Services
Plans for a bidding competition for the franchise to run Great Western rail services into Cornwall have been put off.
First Great Western has had its contract to run the service extended until October and negotiations will now start on a new two-year contract with the company.

First Great Western has had its contract extended.
A new Great Western rail franchise had been put out to tender last summer, but was suspended in October following the cancellation of the West Coast Main Line franchise.
Sarah Newton, MP for Truro and Falmouth, welcomed the news.

“On top of the £250 they want to get you to London (standard class), should you be misguided or desperate enough to want to go and get there in anything resembling enough time to do a days work! Some things simply don't work privatised, and (along with water) this is blatantly one of them!”
