MORE than 30 people collected 30 bags of rubbish in the Par Beach clean-up over the weekend.

The sun beat down on volunteers on Saturday morning as they scoured the beach for litter.

Caroline Wildish from Par helped organise the Beachwatch project on behalf of the Marine Conservation Society (MCS).

She said: "We were really pleased with the number of people who turned up to lend a hand and the sunshine made it even better. We had all ages turn up – the youngest was about eight and I want to say a big thank you to all involved.

"We collected old bits of rope and broken bottles and we noted the types of rubbish.

"Par beach does get quite a lot of things wash up because of the sea currents."

The clean-up was part of a national MCS scheme, but it is hoped that volunteers will be able to take part in similar projects if the people of Par take the beach back into their ownership.
