THE APPETITE of Cornish graduates for running their own business continues to grow, despite fears over the economy, according to Unlocking Cornish Potential (UCP).

More than 20 graduate entrepreneurs attended a third UCP open day at Pool Innovation Centre.

Business advisers and support partners were on hand to test the graduates' ideas and help them develop their plans.

Graduates heard from the 'accidental entrepreneur' Iain Scott, a leading specialist in how people learn to become entrepreneurs.

Graduates were then interviewed by UCP's business development managers and given the chance to speak to other graduates who have started their own businesses.

Programme manager Chris Phillips said the open day provided some exciting start-up businesses with the support and inspiration to grow.

"We're delighted at the high level of interest we've had from graduates who want to launch their own businesses right here in Cornwall."

Carleen Kelemen, director of the Convergence Partnership Office for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said: "Do not waste this time-limited opportunity to realise your ambitions.

"We cannot predict what EU support we may have after 2013, so now is the time to get on with it. It is really important to be able to harness the fresh knowledge and enthusiasm of our graduates to create a vibrant economy in the future for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly."
