OUT Of The Tunnel's Mouth is a fitting name for the new album by renowned and innovative guitarist – and former Genesis member – Steve Hackett.

The album and UK tour – which arrives in Falmouth on Wednesday, November 11 – comes off the back of a divorce and a split from his manager (who is now with Steve's ex-wife).

The situation has led to legal problems which have seen the album's release date put back.

Steve told me: "This is definitely my most contentious work – it's my Citizen Kane! I definitely felt like William Randolph Heart at times.

"It often seemed as though it would be my last album which really concentrated the mind – I felt totally free which, I think, has made for one of my best albums."

On Out Of The Tunnel's Mouth Steve has assembled an array of musicians who complement his virtuosity with both the electric and acoustic guitar.

The team includes former Kajagoogoo man Nick Beggs on bass and Chapman stick, Ferenc Kovacs on violin, and founding Genesis member Anthony Phillips on six-string guitar.

Recorded entirely in Steve's living room, Steve and Roger King embraced all the recording techniques available to them.

Steve added: "I'm totally biased of course, but I suspect it's probably the best album ever crafted in a Twickenham living room since the Stones set fire to the Station Hotel!"

Of his own playing and of the album, Steve continues: "Of course I've made a lack of identifiable style a calling card over the years because I always want a trip around the entire musical universe on every musical outing."

He certainly took a trip on those early Genesis albums, a time he looks back on fondly.

"Phil (Collins) and I were the commoners, while the rest of them were the toffs. We all still keep in touch and they've all been incredibly kind to me over the years."

The Train on the Road tour will feature a mix of the Genesis tracks he wrote – from the likes of Selling England By The Pound and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway – and solo favourites. A must for all Cornish prog rock fans.

Tickets for the Princess Pavilion gig cost £17.50 from 01326 211222.
